Frequently Asked Questions
What is Renew?
Renew is a partnership of local organisations who are working together to deliver a multi-million pound investment programme aimed at regenerating the local area, improving housing and stimulating the local economy.
Their aim is to achieve a sustainable future for North Staffordshire by working to retain and attract population, balance the supply and demand for housing and transform the local urban environment.
What is Reroot?
Reroot is a grant provided by Advantage West Midlands (the regional development agency for the West Midlands) delivered by Renew and the NSRP (North Staffordshire Regeneration Partnership). The grant is there to help local businesses affected by regeneration work to relocate.
Why is there so much building work planned for North Staffordshire?
The main aim of the NSRP is to transform the area, not just continuing to do what has been done before, but also delivering high quality aspirational projects to significantly boost the economy of the area and creating much-needed new jobs and investment.
How will all this building work affect my business?
The regeneration of North Staffordshire will have a very positive impact on businesses in the area as more people move here to live and to work. In order to take advantage of this potential increase in business you need to make sure that your company is in the best site to attract new business and to enable your company to expand. Reroot will not only help you find more suitable premise but will also help to pay for your move.
I am being offered a grant to move premises, what will happen if I stay where I am?
If the area you are in is undergoing major regeneration, your current customers may be moving out of the area and your business may suffer as a result.
Can anyone apply for a Business Relocation Grant?
No, the grant is only available to businesses who are affected by regeneration work and who pay rates to Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, Newcastle Borough Council or Stoke on Trent City Council. The business must employ less than 250 people and be involved in the manufacturing or service industry.
My business won’t really be affected by the building work but my company is growing and I need bigger premises, can I apply for the grant?
No, the grant is only available to companies who are in areas of major redevelopment.
If I apply for this grant, how much money could I get?
The maximum amount payable is £25,000.
Can I claim for all of my costs?
No, the grant will cover up to a maximum of 50% of your moving costs.
Will the grant cover the costs of letting my customers know that I’ve moved?

- Costs of moving including solicitor’s and removal company’s fees.
