Success Stories

Reroot was launched in May 2008 and has already helped fund more than 50 relocations for businesses, affected by regeneration, to move to more suitable premises:  Here are just a few examples of how Reroot has helped…

Case Study 1

Easy Corp continues family tradition

Stoke-on-Trent’s city centre is undergoing a transformation which is resulting in unprecedented regeneration activity.

Within the centre plans are taking shape for a new business district, which aims to create hundreds of new jobs and attract high profile businesses into a professional services sector. Easycorp, a thriving third party storage and distribution business in the city centre’s Clough Street realised they would really benefit from easier access to its warehousing operation through major transport routes, but the existing regeneration plans were limiting their opportunities.

Reroot helped them to relocate just a couple of miles down the road to the newly refurbished Armitage Industrial Estate.

Business co-owner Lyndon Slann explains: “Originally we ran a retail business from Clough Street, Hanley and set up the storage business as a sideline to make use of the extra space we had”.

However, the city centre location was far from ideal for them. “We’ve never got a grant for anything and I couldn’t believe how straightforward it all was.  They helped us find high quality premises on a site where we can expand if we need to.

“I’m also making sure that we spend the relocation money with local firms, we want to put this money into the local economy.”

Bennett Architectural – building a bright future

Regeneration activity is a citywide operation and the town of Tunstall is undergoing a transformation as housing is upgraded and the townscape changes.

Bennett Architectural, a family owned business in the backstreets of Tunstall had grown significantly from a small operation established in 1960 to a major supplier of architectural aluminium systems and custom-built glazed façades across the commercial, retail, residential, leisure, health and education sectors.

The business knew that a manufacturing base situate in the heart of a residential area was far from ideal for the company and its neighbours. Explains Managing Director Lionel Grant: “We were based in the primarily residential area of Parsonage Street, Tunstall, split across two buildings.

We were keen to stay close to the community which has helped us become the successful business we are today.

“So, with support from regeneration partners and Reroot grant funding we have found premises where we can become more efficient and create a much more modern manufacturing base.”

The company has now successfully relocated just a few miles away to Rosevale Business Park, Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Simon Dean Motors - accelerating into a new era

The City Waterside project on the outskirts of Hanley is a one of the region’s flagship housing and community developments.

But for Simon Dean Motors, being based within the development zone was not the ideal business location.

So he contacted Reroot to see if they could help him with the expensive business of relocating equipment and kitting out new premises in a location more suited to the motor trade.

A new site was identified at Fenton Trade Park just a mile down the road and Reroot granted £25,000 towards converting the brand new unit into a state-of-the-art garage.

Says Simon: “We couldn’t have moved without them. Financially it has been a massive help.  Reroot helping to convert the premises from a shell into a garage – so they’re paying for all the electrical work and making it fit for our business.

“It will give the business a much better image and it will put us right up there with the best garages around.”
